moisture analyzer with drying oven

Introduction

The Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer with Drying Oven is a complete moisture analysis system designed for samples that cannot be measured directly by conventional Karl Fischer titration. By combining a Karl Fischer coulometric moisture analyzer, a Karl Fischer drying oven, and an external carrier gas source, the system enables accurate and reliable moisture determination through thermal extraction.

This solution is especially suitable for insoluble solids, particulate and sheet-shaped materials, as well as samples that chemically react with Karl Fischer reagents. Typical applications include lithium battery materials, plastic pellets, metal powders, surgical sutures, battery electrolytes, and electrode sheets, where trace moisture control is critical.

Karl Fischer Drying Oven

The Karl Fischer Drying Oven is designed to operate together with the moisture analyzer and a carrier gas source to enable indirect moisture determination. During operation, the sample is heated to release moisture, which is then transported by the carrier gas into the Karl Fischer titration cell for measurement.

This approach is essential for samples that are insoluble or reactive with Karl Fischer reagents, such as strong acids, strong bases, or highly oxidative and reductive materials.

The drying oven is extensively used for moisture testing of plastic pellets, lithium battery electrodes, and lithium salts, including lithium cobalt oxide (LCO), lithium iron phosphate (LFP), and lithium manganese oxide (LMO).

In lithium battery applications, many lithium salts react directly with Karl Fischer reagents, making direct titration unsuitable. The use of a Karl Fischer drying oven is therefore required and fully complies with GB/T 24533-2009, Appendix B (Moisture Content Test Method) for lithium-ion battery graphite anode materials.
